Visually the items draw upon various art and design effects including a 'Kurt Schwitters' approach to abstract collage and random collection/display technique. This produces a 'new', re-imagined thing; a living, functional and absorbing, 'device'. Merely rebuilding these devices isn't enough; the piece needs to take on it's own identity so, with '12 Meters' what starts out as a random group of assorted measuring devices ends up as a series of wall based hospital gauges, a power station switch panel...whatever your imagination lets you think.
Other works include 'You're through now' which combines communication equipment with a link to emotional states and 'Advance' which is illuminated by a series of LED's re-engaging this 1960's frequency generator into a new and beautiful, living mechanism.
These new, iconic electro/mechanical objects create a meta-physical link between our innate sense of where we are in the world and the technology we rely on.
